Co-ordinating Group for Environmental Radioactivity
About COGER
The Co-ordinating Group for Environmental Radioactivity (COGER) is a voluntary association of people engaged in scientific research in the field of environmental radioactivity. The primary responsibility of the COGER committee is to organise the annual COGER conference, held in different locations across the UK.

The Committee
COGER consists of a panel of academic, industrial and regulatory experts within the Environmental Radioactivity field, all with a shared passion to provide an informal, welcoming forum for discussions involving radiation in the environment and an opportunity to promote the research of early career scientists in this research area. In 2025, the original COGER committee was renewed and new members joined the committee to support the revival of the COGER annual conference.
Our Objectives
The COGER committee aims to:

-
Promote the ongoing science being conducted in the environmental radioactivity and radioecology research areas.
-
Encourage and facilitate dissemination and sharing of knowledge within the environmental radioactivity and radioecology research communities.
-
Provide advice and support to those carrying out environmental radioactivity research.
-
Support and connect the next generation of environmental radioactivity specialists.
Glimpse to Our Past
The COGER workshops and conference series had occurred annually since the 1980s, until the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in an abrupt halting of the series. Check out our time capsule to see more photos and agendas from conferences gone by!
Research Excellence
This is a one of a kind community in the UK bringing together experts and stakeholders in the disciplines of environmental radioactivity and radioecology, offering a forum for knowledge exchange and learning. To recognise scientific excellence from within our early career research community, top contributions within our poster and oral presentations will be awarded by prizes by the COGER committee.
Our Responsibilities
We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for people from all backgrounds to share their ideas, discuss topics of interest within the environmental radioactivity field, and to build and connect as a group for the future.
